Simon Gawesworth, British guy who did the Rio Single Spey video and also does Far Bank videos Episode 11 at 7:30
8:05 good one
8:22 bad one
9:47 line needs to have weight at the back, it's very hard to roll cast where you've got the line wieght at the front (which is better for an overhead casting lines)
Rio's is called Single Handed Spey
10:24 chapter 3 the roll cast but he starts by talking about forward cast
12:00 least amount of line on the water is goal
"small anchor"
12:20 point p (contact point of line on water) must always be in front of you
13:15 train track should aways be parallel to line on the water "forward stroke should be absolutely parallel to that line. parallel like a train track" [I think this means direction of cast must be same as pickup direction, so I searched that and Orvis says use snake roll to reposition]
13:30 if you diverge you get a bad roll cast (that looks a lot like mine)
this guy's video shows a technique for repositioning when only a small amount of line is out (e.g. nymphing a near location)
stand facing downstream line position
2:15 lift entire line and leader and tippet and fly off water
keep rod high and without moving feet rotate at waist so shoulders are square at target
2:50 fly is his only anchor and it lands upstream (like sweeping spay cast to peg in ground exercise)
3:05 plane of anchor travel must always be outside plane of cast travel
3:28 casting from
left shoulder (must still have anchor plane outside of cast plan
good video from Orvis recommended for changing direction when doing a roll cast

bits of tubing will be used to attach and detach your choice of "loose" floats, such as Raven Balsa floats. In the leader's mid-section and tippet apply your choice of shot or tungsten, not in a clumped bunch but at regular intervals. This will allow the leader to sink more uniformly (like a sink tip), thus making for easier spey casting.

Leader and sink tip notes from Dan 2015-05-03:
Dan likes Rio leaders to turn flies over when they have shot on or 4 streamers as they are stiffer. he likes the Orvis leaders for dry flies because they're more supple
the Rio sync tip Dan sold me is a 6 or 7 IPS 24 pound which is about the equivalent of a t11 it will sink faster than the t8
Dan recommends 12 pound ultra-green or 10 pound Ultra green for swinging streamers for steel head
Dan thinks the name of the guide who works for him that I saw yesterday was Alex
existing streamer stripper on spare 6wt would be good for fishing a pond, etc just to get down a bit
