filter shaft kits

2024-06
the filter wouldn't bump any more and when I took it apart there were 2 o-rings missing and both e-clips were off the shaft (the bottom one must have been flushed out with the DE)
upon examination, it appears the eclips that were in there are a little larger than the new (aftermarket) ones I had in the shed. the top one was sitting on the tube plate and when trying to fit it into the groove it wouldn't stay there.
o-rings only are part number ECX9611246PAK3 (for 3 o-rings but no washers, no eclips) I bought at some point as I still have the empty bag
the o-ring store sells them for $1 each + 9.99 flat shipping so I bought 20

heater tube boiling

2024-06 heater-tube boiling sound repair videos video of replacing bypass valve (see ~ 9m 00 sec) and another that is not as pertinent
see "Manual285 p36 troubleshooting flowchart.pdf" pdfp32-34
thermal control valve acts like an automtive thermostat opening at 105F in the outflow of the burner tubes
bypass valve opens when pressure is high (presumably because thermal control valve is closed) to bypass the burner tube thus preventing condensation
it appears my bypass problem was 2 fold: (1) bypass valve spring was 90%+ missing and brass valve disc was frozen to shaft in partially open position; (2) the thermostat did open somewhat when placed in 120F water, but it appear to open less than a new one would
note that new bypass insert has two medium always-open holes next to the thermostat while the presumably factory original I took out only has 1 small always-open hole

phosphates

We (at it seems all pools or at least those in the area) always have crazy high levels of phosphates
2020-05-28 I added  nanophosphate tablets that claim to lower by 440 per 10000 gals so  should lower ours by 666. I think the effect was a fraction of what was expected.
2020-05-25 I added about 2/3 bottle of Phosphatefree. Was unimpressed with change in level.

Plumbing

2023-02-02 Joe from Pop-A-Doc:
don't use teflon tape with compression fiittings use pipe dope instead
under our kitchen sink cold is quarter turn (ball valve?) hot to sink and dishwasher is mulitiurn old style

2023-01-31 Joe from Pop-A-Doc:
Siliconized plumbers caulk allows cleanup with wet rag instead of having to put down masking tape first. He used it for the sink in the big bathroom and the toilet in the big bathroom (which he caulked in a horseshoe shape leaving the back open so if it does leak, one can see it and it won't rot the subfloor before the problem is known.)

to avoid dealing with getting the plunger device threaded into the drain tube again next time he recommends considering a vessel drain so plunger is just decorative
80 at active is too expensive; get it on Amazon or elsewhere
He said that the metal one I bought may make it more difficult than the plastic one (as the threads are finer). I think the plastic one is cross-threaded and that is a lot of the problem but I don't know for sure.
