documented in the version “Mastropiero” or “Maripiero”. Two Doges of the
Republic of Venice belonged to this family: Orio (1178 –1192) who supported
the Crusaders for the conquest of Tolemaide and gave new impetus to trade and
Pasquale (1457 – 1462) who succeeded Francesco Foscari and stopped the war
started by his predecessor.
